Physical Therapy

At our office we utilize many physical therapy modalities. Physical therapy is designed to alleviate pain and improve performance of your musculoskeletal system. Whether there is pain, discomfort, loss of range of motion, or even the need to perform at a higher level athletically physical therapy procedures are designed to help.

The types of physical therapy performed at our office are:

  • Myofascial release - Not just massage, targeted muscle work designed to enhance the tone and function of your muscles. In the acute phase of care it will be utilized to decrease pain, increase range of motion and to decrease muscle spasm. In the other phases it will be used to improve range of motion, increase muscular tone and function, and to improve posture. In rehabilitative stage it will be used to continue progress of all rehabilitative functions and also to alleviate any exacerbation's of muscular hypertonicity that may occur during the patient’s care plan.
  • Electric stimulation - Our office utilizes the Chattanooga Intellect Legend Combination Electric Stimulation/Ultrasound device. The purpose of electrical stimulation is to reduce muscular spasm, decrease pain and promote proper muscular tone.
  • Ultrasound - Our office utilizes the Chattanooga Intellect Legend Combination Electric Stimulation/Ultrasound device. Ultrasound is utilized to aid tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation. Ultrasound is also used to aid in range of motion.
  • Therapeutic Exercises - A therapy used to increase strength. Time will be spent demonstrating and performing exercises for in office therapy and home care. Exercises are typically resistance based and designed for strength and stability of the muscles and the neighboring joints.
  • Traction - Cervical or Lumbar traction is a therapy utilized to decrease the stress on the vertebral disc spaces. Traction will typically be performed at our office during the acute phase of care with a goal of improving posture and reducing pain. Home traction will be recommended when supervision is no longer necessary.
  • Neuromuscular Reeducation - Performed on muscles to improve any aberration of muscle function that would interfere with balance, posture, or kinesthetic sense. Therapies include but are not limited to stretches, balance exercises, repetitive mobilization, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation.
